OUR STORY
Hello and welcome to the story of how our school began!
My husband and I are co-founders of Acton Academy at Fall Creek, and the faces you see here represent the primary reason for this endeavor.
In 2002, with a completed college degree and the belief that I could change the world one child at a time, I began my career in education. What started out as a teaching job really was the beginning of a lifetime of devotion to the profession of making school the best possible scenario for each student that crossed my path. It wasn’t until ten years later, when I had my own child, that I would begin to question the shifts in education and if that was what was best for everyone.
You see, up until that point, I was working within the parameters I was given, trying to make the most of the standards, and the school day, and the tests, and all of the rest. To date, I have taught all grades one through five as a classroom teacher. I have taught kindergarten through fifth grade as an intervention teacher. I have coached teachers in kindergarten through eighth grade as an educational consultant. I believe that teachers are the most passionate people on the planet. And I fully support each one, no matter where he or she may be teaching at this present time.
Over the last decade, I have had a front row seat to changing priorities in the educational world. I have seen curriculum for second graders pushed down to kindergarten babies. I have witnessed little tiny hands operate an online benchmark assessment better than most adults ever could. I have seen the love of teaching vanish before my eyes because “we have to cover all of these standards.”
At Acton Academy, we do care about what your children KNOW, but more importantly, we care about who your children ARE and what they can DO. We believe that all children are heroes on a journey, that they each have a unique calling, and we are committed to helping them find it. Not only a calling, but one that will change the world.
Are you ready to embark on this journey with us?
